Biographical Essay

My name is Price Signaigo. I am a Early Childhood/ Special Education major at Reinhardt University, where I am a Sophomore. I decided to attend Reinhardt University because of there outstanding Education program here. It doesn't hurt that the education program is called "The Price School of Education." Although I would love to say that I am a legacy, and it's named after me it's sadly not.

I was born and raised in Greenwood, South Carolina.  I am blessed to have two wonderful parents, who have made me who I am today. I also have two half sister's who I met when I turned eighteen years old. They are both very successful, one is on the food network on a show called "Desserts First" the other has two beautiful boys and is a teacher. My nephews made me realize what age group I wanted to work with in teaching. They will be in second grade next year. While growing up my grandmother was also a second grade teacher, and I have always looked up to her.

I truly discoverd my passion to teach special educaion in high school. My Junior and Senior year I was the president of Friend's Club. Friend's Club was a club for all the special education students in my high school. We would go bowling and put on dances for them, I like to think I made their high school experience one to remember. I also have been a camp counselor for a group of special education  for the past four years during the summer.
I would like to give my students confidence in the classroom and a sense of comfort. Special Education children deserve a chance to excel in the classroom just like your average student would. In my experience with working with the special education children in highschool you are able to bring new learning techniques to the table everyday. The children really taught me something new about myself everyday. One quality they showed me I had was patience, which isn't always easy to find after having a hard day but they are all worth it. I am taking PED 230 to learn more about teaching and what I will need to obtain to become a teacher. I hope PED 230 will teach me how to better my teaching skills, and also some new ways to interact with children. I want to be a teacher to make a differnce in the world, at the end of the day your paycheck isn't going to be substantial, but you will know your making a difference in these kids lives everyday.
